Budgie lovers throughout NSW are in a flap after winning the recent Australian National Budgerigar Championships.
For many years, there has been the state of origin line up for the Budgies and this has been fiercely contested
by NSW and Victoria.
Now in its 31st year, this eternally popular competition was held at the Melbourne Convention Centre on 29 May and
attracted a large crowd of breeding enthusiasts.
Last year at the 30th ANBC nationals NSW broke the winners drought and won the converted shield after 6 years of
Victoria reining supremos.
For the 31st Nationals, the NSW representative, Warren Wilson (also known as Bob the Budgie from Feather radio),
had to return the Shield so the hosting State and Club could present the Shield.
The shield was requested to be bought to the stage. When opening the bag it was a dinner plate, Warren was not
giving up that Shield. He already knew they had won from the afternoons proceedings.
The NSW team really had something to chirp about with their winning score of 482, with Victoria finishing second
on 393.
